On October 15, 2024, Pol. Gen. Permpoon Chidchob, Minister of Education of Thailand, attended a meeting with Dr. Nanthaporn Janchalia Seributra, CEO of Starfish Education, to discuss ways of learning through innovative projects and technology to help Thai children receive equal opportunities.
Starfish School, a program under the operation of the Starfish Education and an education innovation pilot school in Thailand, has made it to the final round of 3 schools to compete for the World’s Best School Prizes 2024 in the category of Innovation. Run by T4 Education, the World’s Best School Prizes are one of the most prestigious awards in the world for schools and educators.
The Minister of Education listened to a summary of Starfish’s 3R Innovation Curriculum, which uses basic STEM learning and common surroundings to drive the skills of students who cannot read or write in Thai. The 3R Curriculum has a total of 3 learning sets, consisting of a Thai language activity set, including learning the consonants and accompanying pictures, an English language activity set which combines spellings between the Thai language and “Thaiglish” together, and a set of mathematics activities that empowers students to know numbers, count objects and count fingers.
In addition, Starfish Education extends learning outcomes from the classroom to an online format via Starfish Labz, which helps to develop learning skills to students, teachers, and school directors as well as interested citizens through online learning. In addition, the Starfish Class solution measures skills assessment and student development Starfish Class, which focuses on the capturing of future skills development in authentic assessment conditions.
“Educational innovations developed from Starfish Education are in line with the ministry’s policy ‘Study well, be happy,’ and can be integrated and built on with what we have already done. I am ready to invite you to do things in urban society which still has problems in many areas as well. I would like to express my gratitude. From listening, it is considered the concept is the same as mine. Doing anything must come from your own interests first. But no single theory applies to every school, and solutions must be developed and improved to fit the context in each school. I am ready to support each other's work to create equal access to education together,” said the Minister of Education.
